Directions to Westies at Watkins from
Syracuse and Central NY region From Syracuse area it is about 100 miles away to Watkins Glen Head WEST in your Westy Towards Buffalo on the NY State Thruway (Interstate 90) Drive for about 40 miles to EXIT 42 - GENEVA As you exit the toll booth turn right onto Route 14 and head SOUTH Go through the town of GENEVA you will cross Routes 5 & 20 Continue SOUTH for about 40 miles along beautiful Seneca Lake. There will be some nice wineries as you travel along Seneca Lake Enter the village of Watkins Glen at the end of the lake. Go through the downtown portion of Watkins Glen on FRANKLIN ST The State Park Visitor Center and the Glen creek will be on the RIGHT "9th Street" will be on the left. After the Glen creek and before the gas station at the red light make a RIGHT Take the next RIGHT on Corning Street (Route 329) and head up the hill to the State Park. It becomes "Old Corning Road" Bear right on "Walnut Road" following the signs to the State Park. Continue (on route 419) into the State Park. If there is a park official at the booth, let them know that you are with the VW campers at the Onondaga Village loop. You should not have to pay here. Continue into the park past the old stone pavilion and bear left up a very steep hill, indicating "Campground" Creep up the hill to the next ranger booth. Stop there and register for a camping spot in the Onondaga Village loop with the VW group. Continue past the ranger booth up the hill and follow the signs to our camp loop. It will be about 1 mile further on the right . A big open field and a warm club house is on the left where we will have the events for Saturday night. Set up in your camp spot and come register. |

Directions to Watkins Glen coming from the South If you are coming from the SOUTH EAST of Watkins Glen: Find your way to the town of Binghamton NY. It is on a major freeway - Route 81 heading north to Canada from Pennsylvania. Binghamton is right on the Pennsylvania border with New York.. From Binghamton get off of Highway 81 and head WEST on the Southern Tier expressway (Route 17) for about 65 miles towards the towns of Elmira, Horseheads and Corning. In the town of Horseheads Take the Route 14 turn off and head north to Watkins Glen. ++++++++++++++++++++++ If you are coming from the SOUTH WEST of Watkins Glen: Find your way to the town of Williamsport PA. It is on a major freeway - Route 15 heading north towards Rochester. Williamsport is kind of the last big city before heading into the mountains toward NY and Corning. From Williamsport, Take Highway 15 and head NORTH for about 75 miles to the Southern Tier expressway Route 17. Head towards the towns of Painted Post, Corning and Elmira. In Corning take Route 414 NORTH about 15 miles Take 414 to the end where it will merge with 14 in the town of Watkins Glen. +++++++++++++++++++++ As you are heading north on Route 14 into the town of Watkins Glen it becomes Franklin Street. There will be a good size grocery store on the left as you enter the town. Continue past "11th Street" on the right Take the next LEFT on Corning Street (Route 329) and head up the hill to the State Park. It becomes "Old Corning Road" Bear right on "Walnut Road" following the signs to the State Park. Continue (on route 419) into the State Park.
